About this site
Inside Animal Ag
- This is a research-based guide to the structure and impacts of U.S. factory farming.
- We are a work-in-progress, aiming to broaden coverage while also staying current on posted subjects.
- In many areas, particularly environmental, our analysis uncovers notable findings regarding animal ag’s impacts and resource use that are not commonly understood or reported.
- Our goal is to empower journalists, non-profits, and policymakers by providing reliable information about factory farming and encourage environmentalists to explore the wide-ranging impacts.
- Researchers, teachers, and students may find the site of value along with government officials, corporate leaders, and investors.
- A monthly blog post explores a particular area of analysis.
A Few Notes
- All information on the site refers to the U.S. unless it specifically says it is global info.
- In many categories we write a “takeaways” page, which is a summary of the most important points.
- For now, we are not covering the links between diets centered on animal-sourced foods and physical health. Nor are we covering fish farming, though we plan to include it in the future.
- Our word choices, especially in the naming or treatment of animals, do not always reflect our personal preferences. We often use mainstream or industry terms that align with the references we quote, e.g., “livestock” or “broilers.” In other cases, we avoid using euphemisms like “depopulating” or “harvesting” animals.
Our Use of AI
We use AI to find pertinent reports and to educate ourselves, especially when exploring new areas.
We do not use AI for writing, nor do we take its conclusions as facts.
